Still Time Left

All of us here at Last Pass want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!  I know most kids will be going to sleep on Christmas Eve dreaming about all the presents Santa will bring them.  But for all of us at Last Pass this is what we'll be dreaming of.  A giant flock of canadas gliding into the kill hole and everyone waiting for the buzzer!

Tick Tick Tick  Times a ticking on the remainder of this goose season and we still have a ton of birds here and more to the north that need to come down.  If you need to get out one more time this year give us a call and we'll be happy to get you out hunting.

Last 3 Hunts

The last 3 days have continued to be some good hunting.  Saturday we were excited to see a fresh new blanket of snow on the ground.  Bryce and I both thought it'd be a lights out hunt but it was actually kind of tough.  We ended the day with 9 geese but one of them was a really nice one that was banded.  And not just one band but 2 bands on its legs!  Congrats Devon for winning the drawing for the bands!  I apoligize for not getting a group photo but guys left throughout the day taking birds so by the end of the hunt there were only a few of us.

Sunday I had a day off but Bryce went out with 4 other guys.  They saw 1 goose in the morning and killed it and didn't see another until 3:00.  But then the geese started to roll and they ended up with 12.  I'll see if Bryce or any of the boys have pics that we can post up.

Monday was a low key hunt with only 2 of us out there.  Once again the morning was slow with a little trickle coming out of town and the majority of birds heading back into town.  By 2:00 the skies opened up and the geese began to come out in waves.  The birds were once again stubborn but Rod and I were able to shoot a handfull by the time we decided to call it quits.

We still have thousands of geese in Rochester and we'll be hunting them all the way until January 1st.  Give Bryce or me a call to set up a memorable hunt!

Tuesdays Hunt

The good hunting continued Tuesday.  With all the snow melting the geese have been a little tougher than usual for this time of year but as you can see by the pictures we were still able to have a really nice hunt.  I hope the remainder of the goose season treats us as good as the first week has!

If anyone is interested in a last minute Christmas present give us a call and we'll set you up with the best stocking stuffer!

Mondays Hunt

What a difference a day can make.  Yesterday we were hunting in nice white snow and then overnight most the snow left and we had our fields brown again.  The geese were pushing out hard again today and we had a good shoot.  I'd also like to congratulate Matt and Julie for both knocking down their first goose today!  Everyone out there had a great time today and thats what hunting at Last Pass Guide Service is all about!

The Hunting Continues

Late season started out great on Thursday with a great number of birds harvested.  Thursday night a cold front came through and after getting their bills shot off on the opener, the birds laid low for a couple days.  Friday Bryce and I took a group out and and the hunting was tough.  We tried our best but unfortunately the number of birds harvested was still only in the single digits.

We were hoping that the start of the warm up would trigger some geese into moving out of town earlier Saturday but unfortunately the birds still stayed low.  The guys were able to shoot 11 which wasn't to bad but we were hoping for a giant number.

Today the weather finally broke and the warmth had the geese pouring out of town looking to feed after taking a couple days off.  The 7 of us were able to kill our 21 geese in a short amount of time and we were all done by 12:30.

After seeing all the geese fly out today I can say honestly that the fat lady isn't even close to warming up yet on the Rochester goose season!  There are plenty of birds around and we'll be out after them all the way through January 1st.  If you want to hunt give us a call because the action is just heating up.

Late Season Opener

The late season started out with a bang today for all of us at Last Pass.  The day was nothing short of amazing with large flocks decoying perfectly!  We were able to harvest great numbers out of both fields today.  Bryce was picked up and at lunch by the time the flight really started and I was out of the field with my guys by early afternoon.  Neither words nor pictures do today's hunts any justice.  Lets just say there were a bunch of smiles at the end of the day!

We still have room for hunters so feel free to give us a call and set up a day to come and get in on some of the action.

It's almost time...

Tomorrow (Thursday the 8th) the late season starts around Rochester and we have geese flying out of town everywhere!  It's obvious they forgot about hunting season in the 10 days that we've had off from hunting them.  Bryce and I are hoping for some great numbers tomorrow.  We'll keep you updated on the blog and Facebook.

Saturday's Shoot

Where does the time go?!  Regular season is already done and I'd have to say we went out on a bang!  We had a week straight of great hunts.  Friday was just a teaser for what Saturday would bring.  The guys all shot real well and we cleaned house on 3 different flocks of 5, 7, and 6 geese.  Anytime that a pile of 27 canadas are killed its a great day but what put the cherry on the sunday was a mature snow goose that we killed!

Now we have a nice 10 day stretch to let the birds think they survived a goose season but to bad for them we'll be out on December 8th ready to put the grind on them again!  We only have a few spots open for the opener on the 8th so make sure to give us a call ASAP to reserve your spot.  That first weekend is filling up fast especially after people are seeing these pics.

Latest Hunts

First off I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  Here at Last Pass we are very thankful for all the people that come and hunt with us through out the fall and spring.  Another thing we are thankful for are fresh geese and lots of them!  This last week has been fun putting alot of geese on the ground.  Bryce, Dooby, Wes and Tim had a great hunt today and they were done with their limit by 7:45.

We will be hunting hard the next 2 days so if anyone is looking to get out give us a call and we'll put you on birds.

Migration

The snow and cold in the northern half of the state gave us a major migration on Sunday.  Bryce was hunting on the north part of town and I was on the west and we watched as thousands of geese came in all day long.  It was a great scene watching V after V migrate into Rochester.  The only draw back on the day was the number of birds killed.  Both fields harvested birds but it wasn't lights out like we thought it should have been.  The migrators would ball up on us and work us but would lose interest and then fly into town and sit on water.  The good news is we have a ton of new geese and with warm temps this week it should be great hunting for the Thanksgiving weekend.

We still have some opening for this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The regular season ends on Sunday but will reopen on Thursday Dec 8th.  The opener is traditionally a good day to hunt and after a 10 day rest the geese should be care free to come into the decoy spreads.  There is still a few openings left for the opener on the 8th so give us a call if you'd like to come out hunting.

Good Times Are Here!

We've been getting guys out on some great hunts this last week.  Rochester has picked up alot of new birds that have been migrating in these last 5 days.  Nows the time to get down here and shoot some geese.  These new birds put on a show Saturday with geese in the decoys only 15 yards away!  Its officially GAME ON in Rochester!  It looks like this weekend should bring even more birds into town so keep your fingers crossed that this weather hits north of us.

Saturdays Hunt

Wednesday we had a flock of 30+ geese come in and the guys were able to knock 8 down out of it.  A single was later shot to fill the limit!

Sundays Hunt

The wind put a little damper on Sundays hunt but the guys still had a good time.  We had multiple flocks decoy to less than 20 yards but with the wind at 30+ mph at times it didn't take long for the geese to boogy out when we came up shooting.  We were able to let a young kid get his first shots off at geese.  Unfortunately he didn't bag any but he had a great time hunting and he was able to see geese up close and personal with 12 birds landing 8 yards in front of his pit door!  We ended the day with a handful of geese for 4 guys so overall it wasn't to bad considering the wind.

Our regular season runs through November 27th this year.  We have a week and a half break and then the late season opens up on December 8th.  The late season opener is traditionally a blood bath so make sure to book early because we have guys calling already.  The remainder of the season is going to be a grind!  We look forward to hunting with you.

Busy Busy

Besides chasing geese this week we've been very busy dropping pits in our new field.  Our new field is going to be a grinder!  We went out and opened up the new field this last sunday and the geese put on an amazing show.  We are looking forward to shooting alot of birds out of this new spot.  As you can see, there is alot of work that takes place behind the scenes.  Thanks to everyone that stopped out to help!

Its Go Time!!!

Wow what a difference a week makes!  A combination of the full moon phase and great NW winds for 7 days helped bring a big influx of new geese into our area.  Our new feathered guests are decoying beautifully and we are starting to put up some good numbers.  The weather is suppose to get colder again this week so if anyone is looking to hunt give us a call because this next weekend should be a good one to get out and shoot some geese.

Also just a heads up...  The snow geese had another good hatch this year.  If you are wanting to book a spring snow goose hunt with us I'd email us or call us soon because we are starting to book up fast!  Many of the weekends only have one field left so don't wait because I'd hate to see you loose the weekend that you wanted.

Harvest

Almost all our fields are now picked.  We are still waiting on a few corn fields but the good news is all our bean fields are harvested and are huntable.  Thats the good news.  Bad news is with this weather being hot and in the 80's there isn't alot of geese migrating into Rochester but that will change in the next couple weeks.  We usually get a good push of "calender" geese that make their way here towards the middle to end of October.  These birds migrate here regardless of weather.  We are starting to book guys so if you are looking for a fun and enjoyable hunt give us a call.  We'll be honest with you whether we think its worth your time coming for a hunt or not.

NEW WEBSITE!!!

Finally!  It took longer than we had hoped but I believe the wait was worth it.  A big Thank You to Doug Warren for doing a great job on the website.

Back to the hunting reports....

Early goose season is done now and overall it was a very productive year.  Opening day was tougher than normal but every time out after that the geese cooperated nicely.  We were even fortunate enought to havest a few bands during a couple of our hunts.  These hunts were a great way to kick off the 2011 hunting season with a good number of geese being harvested.

The crops are still a couple weeks out for harvest but we are starting to see a few new geese flying around Rochester.  We will keep everyone updated on our blog otherwise check us out on facebook!  We are looking forward to a stellar year of goose hunting!
